STEPS TO THE FIELD

The journey for new full-term workers – from that first conversation to the start of your assignment – can take about a year or two. Our team walks with you through all of the steps, together seeking God’s direction and purposes in every part of the process.

(1-4+ months)

As you express interest in Africa Inland Mission, a regional Mobilizer will connect with you. When you are ready, you’ll apply online – starting with a simple Interest Form, followed by the longer Member Application form. Once your references are received and all materials are reviewed, we’ll set up an in-person interview with you.

(1 week)

Engage AIM is held at AIM’s Headquarters just outside of Atlanta as a final evaluation if AIM is a good fit for you. The week will orient you to AIM and provide an introduction to African culture, insight into the missionary life, and training for raising financial support. These events are held in March, June, and November, with an age-appropriate children’s program running in parallel. A final decision on your appointment to AIM will come about week after the event.

(3 days)

After saying goodbye to your family and friends back home, you’ll return to AIM Headquarters for Checkout. This will include final logistics and a time to both reflect and celebrate! If you’re serving in Africa, we’ll take you to the airport. In the early months of your new assignment, you will attend Africa-Based Orientation, AIM’s 3-week training held twice a year in Kenya.

(2-6+ months)

Upon completion of the interview, you’ll make preparations to attend Engage AIM, a week-long event held at our U.S. Headquarters three times a year. Prep includes a debrief with a counselor as well as a Bible Assessment – both of which can be completed virtually. This stage must begin no later than two months prior to the beginning of the Engage AIM event you plan attend.

(6-12+ months)

After appointment, you will be assigned a Coach who will work with you to determine and confirm your ministry assignment. Your Coach will then guide you through support raising and assignment preparations. You will work through an online checklist, as well as any other requirements needed before leaving for the field.
